In two-minute short episodes, we follow the exploits of a pitiful antihero with a big mustache, who invariably has bad luck on his side. His naivety, selfishness, vanity and clumsiness, make him a charming and universal loser, whether he is a farmer or a pirate, a knight or an astronaut. It always ends wrong for Dickie, to the delight of the viewer. Dickie has no idea how society works. He views our world as an alien. He always starts with the best intentions, but things invariably turn out wrong. Despite his many human shortcomings, we still feel sympathy for Dickie and identify with him, because there is a Dickie in each of us.
